Ezra, a young religious fanatic commits a crime and flees in search of his estranged sister, Roxy, an ageing stripper reconnects with the son she once abandoned and Benjamin, a doubtful priest finds his faith at a crossroads. Set in Cape Town, South Africa, Salvation is a faith-based drama, about how each of their turbulent journeys cross paths and how they find faith in themselves, each other and eventually, God.
Salvation is a deeply personal story and in many ways relates to my own spiritual journey towards forgiveness and in acknowledging and viewing myself and the people close to me as fallible human beings. As a result I renewed my sense of faith in humanity, the universe and ultimately, God.
I want to create a film that explores the concept of finding hope through the act of forgiveness, forgiveness towards ourselves as individuals, and in each other as fellow human beings. For this story I envision a cinematic universe that is deeply poetic and spiritual. I want to create a seamless, interweaving character-driven piece that that will make you connect with the beauty, growth and pain of each character’s journey. A film that not only delves into the human psyche and the raging emotional rivers of each character, but also the tenacity with which they pursue the values and things that are important to them.
